“Female genital mutilation is immoral because it inflicts pain or girls and removes potential for pleasure”
Even though cultures are thought to have to be respected hundred percent, there is no way one can accept and see as moral to make a “partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons”. It is a brutal act to a human being no matter its culture, nationality, age or sex. We, as humans, are naturally empathetic and so it is impossible for us to see this act as something normal, sane or fair. Therefore, it is seen as immoral. The idea that stands up the most is the fact that a woman, as well as any other living organism, owns its own body.
The main immoral fact of female genital mutilation is the lack of consent of the girls who get it done. It is almost, practically always, the decision of someone else. Plus, this procedure is not safe most of the time and has long term consequences. Every woman in the world should have the right to decide what to do with their body, whether there are Asian, African, American or European. No one else should have the power to inflict such pain to a girl against her will, plus taking away a potential pleasure if they wished. It is immoral for one to have the power on someone else´s body, no matter the social, economic or cultural baggage.
