The importance of things is absolutely relative to each person. Personally, I believe that history should not be a compulory IB subject because it means giving priority to one subject over another that is not mandatory either, such as phsyical education, art or geography. I dont believe that history is not important at all, however, I think it is something that can be taught in hand with other subjects. For example, in A1 and A2, history is taught when it is relevant to the subject, which is constantly. Geography also studies a lot of concepts or conseuences, both physical and social, which many of them are due to historical events. Therefore, the main ideas of the historical event is taught or discussed. I do agree in the fact that it is important to know sometimes the past for not making the same mitakes. However, the same history has shown that the most powerful people in the world are the last ones to look back and reconsider certain ideas. In my opinion, it is better to make other subjects compulory to the IB, such as PE, art and geography. The first two because they are very healthy four your body and mind and geography becasue it teaches you about the past, present and future in topics of human and global importance. It makes you a more conscious person in the moment you live, the present, where you can change things and make a difference, where as in history you cant do anything else apart from changing it for future generations.
